Tecplot, Inc., developer of the leading Visual Data Analysis (VDA) software for engineers and scientists, announced the general availability of Tecplot 360 EX 2016 Release 1 and Tecplot Focus 2016 Release 1.
For Tecplot 360 EX 2016, Tecplot focused on strengthening many of the software’s existing capabilities. The highlights of the new version include easier license management, better support for polyhedral data, improved animation methods, an all-new macro debugger, and greater.
In 2016, we released Tecplot 360 EX, bringing our flagship data visualization product to a new level of usability and performance. Tecplot Focus 2016 R1 is based on Tecplot 360 EX, so Tecplot Focus users now have access to the improvements we introduced in that product: focus_release_notes.pdf

Tecplot 360 EX 2016 Release 1
Highlights of this release include easier license management, improved animation dialogs, better support for value-blanked data, improved Mac support, and an all new macro debugger.
Managing your license just got easier
The license activation process has been simplified with our new license manager, Activation Pro. For single-users all you need to do is enter a license code, and Activation Pro will determine your machine ID and download a license key for you. And because the license key is stored it in a central location, your license will be instantly updated when you install a new version of Tecplot 360 EX. Voilà !
Animating is key to gaining insights
Now you have the ability to control animation speed with easy VCR controls. You can animate zones, line maps, iso-surfaces and IJK planes.
Scripting with the Macro Debugger
The overhauled Macro Debugger makes it easy for you to navigate and debug your scripts. You can interactively add breakpoints, jump in and out of sub-routines, and add watch variables.
Speeding up polyhedral data rendering
You will appreciate improvements to Tecplot’s performance with polyhedral data. The CFD community is more and more gravitating to polyhedral element types largely due to their tendency to increase the rate of convergence. We’ve spent considerable time improving our algorithms and rendering to better support polyhedral cells. Early benchmarking indicates overall speed improvements of about 25%, with some operations being over 2 times faster.
Improvements for Mac Users
If you’re a Mac user, you can now easily launch a new Tecplot 360 EX window from the Dock (no more using the command line), as well as by double clicking on a layout, macro, or Tecplot data file. Also, modeless dialogs no longer drop behind the main window.
