SmithMicro’s MotionArtist is designed with comic artists in mind and is a great way for animators to add movement and sound to their creations. With this 2D animation software, you can import your characters and artwork that you have created in other drawing programs and produce motion comics and movies.
MotionArtist has three workspace views, each with a different purpose and toolset. The Director View is the most commonly used workspace in the application, and presents an overall view of your work. You can add panels in this view and arrange the layout of your page. You can also set motion paths and add stop points to your page. Stop points are an essential part of your motion paths; they give your viewers a chance to read your word balloons and admire your art.
While the Camera View does not allow you to animate, it lets you adjust the angle, rotation and tilt of the page, just like taking a photograph with a real camera. You can adjust your motion paths in this view as well. When you switch to Camera View, the software displays a ring of circles. Depending on which area you click and drag, you will be able to rotate, pan and move or zoom the camera. These controls give you immense flexibility with your camera angles.
The final workspace mode is Panel View. In this mode, you have ultimate control over panel creation and adjustment. With panels, you can display text, images and even movies into them. You can also place “floaters” on your pages in Panel View. Floaters are independent objects that are not attached to a panel that can be animated to give your page more depth or uniqueness.
