ESI Group, pioneer and world-leading solution provider in Virtual Prototyping for manufacturing industries, has presented 2014.0 version of PAM-DIEMAKER with PAM-TFA for CATIA V5 is a dedicated workbench presented inside the CATIA V5 environment. It is a fully integrated software tool to provide a trade-oriented solution for rapid die face design within CATIA V5.
From a given CAD part geometry, PAM-DIEMAKER for CATIA V5 allows the user to design and optimize the binder surface and die addendum within CATIA V5 in just minutes. Its rapid and iterative parametric approach generates a realistic simulation model, allowing the user to quickly evaluate the part’s formability. Tipping direction, binder surface and addendum geometry can easily be modified, allowing total control of upfront design processes such as the number of stages and multi-parts grouping. As the entire product is embedded inside CAAV5, this process is kept very easy and straightforward, and the tool surface model created can be used directly for downstream manufacturing and solid design processes.

PAM-DIEMAKER for CATIA V5 has been developed in close cooperation with automotive OEM partners, to ensure that from the user’s point of view, it follows as closely as possible the standard tool face design process. To define the 3d parametric surfaces, PAM-DIEMAKER for CATIA V5 makes use of intuitive profiles that can be manipulated through control points in both 2d (sketcher tool) and 3d space. During all design phases, standard CATIA functionality remains available, such as sketching, filleting, surface generation and trimming tools, measuring tools, reporting tools etc.

The integration of PAM-DIEMAKER within CATIA V5 allows the user to quickly design dies based on the component part CAD models, which ensures a consistent geometric data flow in an iterative continuous improvement process, resulting in significant time savings. In the past, such fast design steps could only be done in an external environment, forcing the user to leave the CAD environment and to export the geometric data through a standardized format such as IGES or VDA. All problems related to using these interfaces (to transport data from one system to another one) are no longer of concern.

PAM-TFA for CATIA V5 stands for Transparent Formability Analysis integrated into the CATIA V5 environment. PAM-TFA is a dedicated Workbench presented inside the CATIA V5 environment, it is a fully integrated software tool to provide a trade oriented solution for component feasibility and cost estimating purposes. Based on the part geometry, the user will build, calculate and analyze a model using Finite Element technology. As the entire product is embedded inside CAAV5, this process is kept very easy and straightforward.

* During the input phase, the user is guided through the various mandatory inputs using a step-by-step toolbar;
* The solving process is automatic and does not require any manipulation from the user. PAM-TFA is built around a brand new state-of-the-art inverse solver, allowing for robust and realistic simulations, covering:
– Formability for part feasibility and optimization.
– Flattening for material cost estimation and optimization, and blank or coil sizing.
– Different forming conditions (various frictions, locked boundaries, edge forces, symmetry) and allowing projection on non-planar surfaces.
* For analysis purposes, the user has access to ready-to-use contour Descriptions that show the deformations on the product. PAM-TFA also displays a Forming Limit Diagram (FLD) Description, which is a very simple way to understand the formability of the component.

During these phases, standard CATIA functionality remains available, such as meshing tools, printing tools, reporting tools etc. The integration of PAM-TFA within CATIA V5 allows the user to perform an inverse analysis directly based on the CAD model, taking full advantage of the update functionality within the CATIA PLM, which ensures a consistent geometric data flow in an iterative continuous improvement process, resulting in significant time savings. In the past, such analysis could only be done in an external simulation environment, forcing the user to leave the CAD environment and to export the geometric data through a standardized format such as IGES or VDA.

In order to assure full inter-operability with the physics-based simulation environment PAM-STAMP 2G, ESI Group offers within this release a native interface. Upon request (licensed option), this interface can be made available to the users and allows direct exporting of the CATIA V5 model to PAM-STAMP 2G format. This will further reduce process discontinuity and errors, due to geometric approximation and lack of traceability resulting from the data transfer
